The ELW Hymnal: Words about Worship

April 7, 14, 21
Sanctuary

The new cranberry hymnal has been out for some time now and it is a wealth of resources for our worshiping community. On Sunday mornings  however, we only scratch the surface of this rich book full of scripture, hymnody, theology, and prayer. Join Pastor Dave and others as we walk through the ELW and let God’s Spirit create in us new hearts for worship and praise.

Embracing the Prophets

April 7, 14, 21
Fellowship Hall

Walter Brueggemann on Confronting Today’s ‘Pharaohs.’ This study takes a ride through the poetic prophecy, drawing connections between Israel’s sociological, economic and spiritual status and that of America today. Brueggemann is considered by many to be the world’s leading interpreter of the Old Testament.

Lutherland Pilgrimage

Whittecar Class

Gail Vaughn, Sally Sloop, Cathie Strawbridge, and Peggy Ruopp
Pastor David’s Office

This class is for adults with/without developmental delays. The curriculum utilized follows the Revised Common Lectionary and is designed as an overview of the readings with an emphasis on the Gospel.

Community Class

Gordon Keehn
Underwood Hall

The Bible is our ultimate source, and the target of this class is a clearer understanding of the many ways that being a Christian affects the choices we make in our lives. Each of us has encountered God in ways that are unique, and each of us has much to learn from our shared experiences.

Faith Lens Class

Courtney Pernell, and Scott Saby
Erin Chaffee Youth Room

This class, specifically geared to high school students but open to everyone, meets each week to discuss how Sunday’s Scripture readings relate to various current events in the world.  Conversation is lively and engaging as this class ponders together how Jesus calls us to live out our faith in daily life.

Scriptures on Sunday

Pastor Dave Wegner
Choir Room

The Revised Common Lectionary is a three-year cycle of readings from The Bible which many Christian traditions use to determine the readings for each Sunday worship service. Weekly sermons are usually based on one of the readings, most commonly from one of the four Gospels. This class is a weekly discussion of all the texts for that Sunday and seeks to find the single thread running through the living Word as it speaks into our lives. The discussion is led by Dave Wegner in the Choir Room and all are welcome at any time – no need to be present for previous discussions.
